About this site

For the some, the surfboard is a utilitarian multi-tool, for others, each board is a mere piece in a deluxe stratified set. Show Us Your Quiver is a blog dedicated to exploring our relationships with surfing's most elemental commodity.

Do you have a quiver you'd like to share? Find out how here!

    Name: Paul Boardman
I shaped some these, including the 12’6” tandem.
I happen to be in the same weight class as Matt Biolos, so I think he is a good choice as a shaper.
Living in NJ, the waves are often shitty, but if you have the right board a lot of marginal days can be fun. However, not sure why I need an 8’ Simon Anderson gun!
Also of interest are the 5’ 3”Wilderness George Greenough and the 7’ 11” Greg Noll transition era (and the Clarke blank)
Still about 10 other boards in the garage.

Some surfboards that I currently use and some that I hold fondly. The yellow surf board with orange lightning was my first board, a gift from my parents when I was 9, in 1989. This changed my life.
The surfboard that is painted pink, is 2003. During that year many people in Spain disagreed with the Iraq invasion and the Spanish army involvement in this war. Some surfers painted "no war” in our surfboards.

Yes, I have a surfboard problem. Go to CompareSurfboards.com for real surfboard reviews if you do, too.

    Name: Chad Richmond
The board on the far left is a 6’ Paulownia alaia with a mahogany tail block and redwood stringers that I left exposed near the tail to help control slides and keep the board in the pocket (This is the board featured in the short film “Against the Grain” on vimeo).  The next board to the right is a 5 1/2’ alaia I shaped from redwood and inserted mahogany stringers and tail block.  The board in the middle is a 5’ alaia that I shaped from a 2” thick Paulownia blank, gave it an extra deep concave and finished with stain and a blowtorch.  The next one is the first alaia I shaped (inspired by a Tom Wegener design) from Paulownia and finished with stain and blowtorch designs.  Last is a 5 1/2 ’ version of the board on the left with an outline inspired from a photo of a Hawaiin around the turn of the 20th century.  In the front is a hand plane I made from the scraps.  I suck at riding all of these, but they are super fun to make and I’d encourage any surfer to try it.  Yew!
